NC Learning Center News

NCDOL employees now have access to the new NC Learning Center. The system is designed to serve as the singular site for all training and development needs for state employees. The expectation for the system is that it will provide tremendous benefits to state employees including the ability to build a comprehensive transcript of development activities that is transportable within State government.  The system is designed to have the ability to search, access, register, complete, track and report on all available training within the agency or offered by the State.  This includes classroom, virtual, or online. When training is found that meets an employee’s needs, they can register for the training and track what they have completed. However, please remember that all training requires prior supervisor approval. The system is designed to automate and expedite training approvals as well as assign training based on the employee’s current job.  Employees can search for and manage certifications and more.

In addition to utilizing the NC Learning Center for training needs, the system can also be used to communicate important information as well as ensure awareness of policies and procedures that directly impact our agency’s work.

To access the NC Learning Center:

  1. Log into the BEACON system (SAP)
  2. Click the Learning tab, then click the Submit button.

When accessing for the first time, you will need to make some security changes to your web browser.

  1. Go to Tools, scroll down to Internet Options.
  2. Click the Security tab then click the Sites button. A trusted site window will appear.
  3. In the add this website to the zone text field, type in https://*.csod.com as a Trusted site, then click the Add button.
Note: Both *.state.nc.us and *.csod.com have to also be trusted sites.
  4. Once this is done then you go to the Learning tab and it will bring up a window with “Submit”. This should take you to the welcome page.  The NC Learning center will automatically recognize you. A window will appear that says, “Let’s get Started”.

There under your transcript you will find courses to help familiarize you with the system. There is a “new user orientation” course that highlights key features of the system and provides a comprehensive system overview.

Please note:  The NC Learning Center does not handle any ETTA related training or your bureau/division specific training.  At this time, the system only includes HR related training and courses offered at the State Personnel Development Center.  Because the system is statewide, you may also see training across agencies.  Also, please keep in mind that the system is still in the development stages and there may be future additions.
