NCDOL Ethics Statement for Covered Employees

Statement to the Public
The Commissioner of Labor established a gift ban for ALL NCDOL Employees. This ban relates to the gift ban that was instituted by the N.C. General Assembly in 2007 with the passage of the State Government Ethics Act. The current NCDOL Gift Ban Policy prohibits ALL NCDOL employees from accepting gifts from any persons engaged in activities that are regulated or controlled by NCDOL. The law is complex and sometimes confusing for both the giver and the recipient. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution I/We/the Commissioner must respectfully decline to accept ANY gifts of ANY value as a part of my/our/his participation in this event. The Department apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause, but due to the potential liability to both parties, all caution is being taken.

Note for All NCDOL Employees
It is important that NCDOL employees err on the side of caution in relation to gifts that may be offered to them in order to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. If you have any questions regarding gifts from the public, including meals, tokens of appreciation for speaking at an event, gift bags given out to attendees at events, etc., please contact the NCDOL Ethics Liaison, Britne Becker, at (919) 707-7711 or britne.becker@labor.nc.gov
